In general, when you are looking for freeware games, nine times out of ten the only place to get them from is the author’s website - if it’s still online at the time - and there is no way for me to give you a complete list of such games within a reasonable amount of time - there are just FAR, FAR too many. For a few specific game recommendations, have a go at Another Metroid 2 Remake,Alien Assault (mirror, official website & forum went down some years ago), and the white chamber
However, apart from the repositories I listed earlier, there are also indexes of freeware games that you can use to find titles that fit your preference:
- Rock, Paper, Shotgun has an entire category devoted to freeware (you might want to check out their article on The 50 Best Free Games On PC)
- Wikipedia has several lists that can be applied: List of freeware video games , List of commercial video games released as freeware, List of free PC games and List of open-source video games
- TV Tropes’ entry on Freeware Games contains a sizeable list of such games and several game repositories .
- Steam: Welcome to Steam
- GOG: GOG.com
- Green Man Gaming: Buy Games, Game Keys & Digital Games Today
- Gamer’s Gate: Buy and download games for PC now
- Direct2Drive: Customer Service | Portal
- HumbleBundle: The Humble Store: Great games. Fantastic prices. Support charity. (definitely recommended, but you need steam for most games or other clients, its basically a game key store)
Not the best, but if you want something different and don’t care about DRM handling your game, then the following can also do the job:
- Origin: Origin
- uPlay: Home - Uplay
- Battle.net: Download Clients (Only for blizzard games)
- ithio: http://itch.io (for indie games)
Gives paid games for free - You mean give that game license not pirating right?
